Schaumburg, a fairly nice suburb, recently opened a convention center
that could house COMMON easily:
http://www.ci.schaumburg.il.us/vos.nsf/schaumburg/convention-center.
Closer to the airport, hotels are likely cheaper, free parking
(http://marriott.com/property/propertypage/CHIRS), in-room HDTV, and
plenty of restaurants and the area's biggest mall for those who like to
shop.

Only about an hour from downtown Chicago outside of rush hour.

Chicago:
I'd like the fact that you could drive.
However, if I remember correctly, most of the hotels in the conference
area charge $$/day for parking. And lunches were quite expensive in the
past. I do remember going out to eat at one nice Italian restaurant.
However the local attendee who drove was quite nervous. Seems he didn't
like the fact that we were eating quite close to someplace called
Cabrini Green (he had a nice car). Sounds like our one plant in the
city with the bullet holes in the conference room - strays from the
subsidized housing across the street. In Chicago, I did find one
inexpensive hotel not far.
However the hole in the window, the stain on the floor and the fact that
the few cars on the block that still had windows in them had stickers to
be towed away was a bit disconcerting.

There will be only one big conference per year in the future. If it were
to be held every spring in Chicago, how would people feel about that?
Would they still attend? One good thing is that attendees could take the
train to downtown from either airport.
