I agree with Dave: if you need to do any sort of database driven OS operations, from clearing file members to mass compiles to varying off devices to running reports, then REXX is a fantastic option. You can set up lists of libraries or users or whatever in a database file and then run SQL statements against that file. You can then use the results directly in OS/400 (oops, i5/OS!) commands. I suppose there are some performance considerations. REXX is interpreted, not compiled. But then again, if it's for relatively long-running tasks like compiles or reports, the overhead is minimal. From: Dave Odom And to make clear... you can eliminate CLLE or any sort of CL all together and use REXX instead, doing all you did in CL and more AND call SQL or QM and more.
