Running SQL command in a CLLE program

Joe Pluta said it very well.   REXX is very powerful, is the standard
utility language across all IBM platforms, can be used to do entire
applications, has MANY books (over 400 at Amazon.com) and articles
written about it since the '70s (yes, mainly for the mainframe but its
easy to modify for the i5), easy for folks to learn.  Folks that are
familiar with languages such as Java, C, PL/I and the like will see a
similar style.  When I was at IBM, many of our "home grown" applications
were done in REXX, especially those that needed any sort of matrix or
string manipulation or and we called the various DB2s.  
 
Yep, its interpreted but VERY fast and I'll wager as fast as most CLPs.
  I often create CMD files that invoke the REXX program so I don't have
to do the Start REXX command.
 
As Joe said, "the overhead is minimal".
