<<Why should be expect software vendors to keep supporting their product on versions of OS no longer supported by IBM? Isn't that really doing a disservice to them?>> In a nutshell, YES! This market would be a whole lot better off if the ISV's were agents for change in this area. They should be able to "pull" their customers up the ladder with them. All they have to do is be smart enough to publish "end of life" schedules the way IBM does. They also need to be introducing features to their software that will incent the customers to continue paying for maintenance. I know of one SSA product that died on the vine because nobody paid attention to it. I will be spending time today working on converting that module's files to a Wintel based product that is a POS, but management listened to the Windows geeks. It also hurt that SSA wanted to charge 6 figures for changing the licensing on a product that hasn't been enhanced in 5 years. I always gotta come back to the large standing ovation a major software vendor had at their user convention when they announced they were no longer supporting obsolete versions of operating systems. Now all these people had "business" reasons for upgrades. I don't expect my software vendors to release fixes for the latest depreciation schedules for tax reasons for version 1.0 of their software when they are on version 8.3. I don't expect IBM to release a fix for V2R3 of i5/os for an "Integrity fix" discovered in V5R4 of i5/os. Why should be expect software vendors to keep supporting their product on versions of OS no longer supported by IBM? Isn't that really doing a disservice to them? Rob Berendt
