The most dreaded task I've ever been involved in the last 7 years here at ECHO
is - configuring DOS based Symbol 5250 scanners! I can see why someone wanted
them preconfigured. I'm so glad we moved on to Windows CE.net and XPe for our
scanners.

This isn't a question of reloading the 5250. It's usually just a config
setting.
Are you saying you get the units, turn them on, and use them?

That is indeed what I am saying. The units were delivered in a
preconfigured state, right down to static IP addresses. According to the
invoices we found for them the MIS manager did not want anything to do with
setting them up so he had a 3rd party do it all.

As a fallback, we have spoken to the people at WaveLink about getting new
software if we do have a failure. As far as I have been able to tell they
are the only people who still make 5250 software for the DOS-based Symbol
scanners. If there are other alternatives, that info would be great to
have.
