I have been looking at using the Exit Program approach as well, but have
hit a bit of a roadblock. In looking at the headers for the Telnet Exit
Program (QSYSINC/QRPGLESRC) I can see the user id, initial program, etc.
but no defined way to set the password...

You don't need the password. In fact, let this be a big red WARNING to anyone working with this exit program: THE EXIT PROGRAM CAN OBVIATE THE NEED FOR A PASSWORD. Make sure that only the most trusted people are able to change this exit program, because anyone who can change it can make it possible to log on under any account on the system without a password.

Mine is locked down so that only an *ALLOBJ user can change it. And only me, and my boss (the president of the company) have *ALLOBJ access.

Anyway... I gave it a try. When I set the userid to 'KLEMSCOT' (my userid) and tell it to allow autosignon, it signs me on automatically without having to type a name or password. No problem.

Ideally I would want this exit program to:
1) Check device name or IP and automatically signon if there is a match to
my RF scanners.
2) If there is no match then just allow the user to go through the normal
signon processing.

Yes, that's exactly what I've just done. Mine only automatically signs on if the IP address is 192.168.5.71 and the device name is 'SCOTT'.

If you make any progress I would love to hear about it,

I already had a working exit program, I just stuck a few lines of code into it... took about 5 minutes to add this change and have it work.
