I had a ribbon vendor call and call and call... Even after telling him not to call. One day, after he identified himself, I just hung up. Wouldn't you know that 2 minutes later he called back. "Mr. Adams, you hung up on me!" "Yep," I said, "and I'm doing it again." Can't remember him ever calling again.
I watched a buddy of mine take a similar call once. Almost immediately after answering, I saw him say "Oh, sorry, can you hold for a moment?" And then he put the call on hold and simply let it stay that way while we talked. I liked it. The time someone will wait on hold is much longer than the time taken by a pure hang-up.
(I know, this ought to be NonTech, but I haven't totally worked out connections between gmane....midrange and NonTech yet. Coming soon...)
