Hi,

Typically yes. If the disk space for the virtual tape is in a separate ASP
or IASP, you will benefit more. Note that this function is as intuitive
as relativity.

Yes.

But if you are at v5r4, then you can create a virtual tape assuming you
have enough free DASD.

Then,
DUPTAP FROMDEV(TAP01) TODEV(TAPVRT01)
Put in you new blank tape..
DUPTAP FROMDEV(TAPVRT01) TODEV(TAP01)

If you decide to start doing this all the time, consider doing the
original save to the virtual tape. It should be* faster than saving to
the physical tape.

* - Depends on your physical tape, DASD config, and card/bus config.

But do I need two tape drives? I only have one drive. Or is
there a way
around having only one drive?

I forgot to mention this small detail previously.

I don't know if there is a way to do this or not. I would
like to take my

last full system save tape and make a copy of it. Is there a
way to do it?
I am using option 21 to do my full save if that makes any difference.
