Mark, As I understand your requirements and the iSeries capabilities, you should be able to do what you want using some combination of OS/400 and ( PSF/400 and/or Infoprint Server). Check out the iSeries printing Redbooks and redpieces here: (Printing IV) http://www.redbooks.ibm.com/abstracts/gg244389.html?Open (Printing V) http://www.redbooks.ibm.com/abstracts/sg242160.html?Open (Printing VI) http://www.redbooks.ibm.com/abstracts/sg246250.html?Open (Printing VII) http://www.redbooks.ibm.com/abstracts/redp3752.html?Open Here's a case study about similar requirements: http://www.iseriesnetwork.com/artarchive/index.cfm?fuseaction=viewarticl e&CO_ContentID=20463&channel=art&PageView=Search Or http://tinyurl.com/ozusp Here's the same case study in case you're not a member of iSeries Network: http://rjssoftware.com/Solutions/DocumentManagement/CaseStudies/WebDocs- iSeries/Documents/Case%20Study%20-%20TPI%20Billing.pdf Or http://tinyurl.com/nkuqq HTH, Charles Wilt -- iSeries Systems Administrator / Developer Mitsubishi Electric Automotive America ph: 513-573-4343 fax: 513-398-1121

This *should* be easy nowadays, where GUI is the norm insterad of the exception, but there seems to be a dearth of easy to follow information in this area. Goal: Print customer invoices, interleaving 0 to n supporting documents (e.g. Proof of Delivery) between each invoice. Current setup: Invoices are generated as a standard *SCS spool. Documents have already been scanned as TIFF images and reside in the IFS. Printers support PCL5 or PCL6 and are mostly HP. They are currently configured as *LAN printers, using the 3812 mod 1 type description and Host Print Transform. There might be up to 1000 invoices on a particular day, though the volume is spread out over numerous offices, so spool generation performance is not much of an issue. Plus, the bulk of them can be generated overnight. It is also not practical to invest in *IPDS type printers. I would like to import / reference the images on the fly, as the invoices are being generated, instead of generating the *SCS spool and doing post-processing. Questions: What API's, if any, would be required to do this? Can TIFF images be used or do they need to be converted to some other format? Is any additional software required from IBM (e.g. AFPU) or can this be done with the existing facilities in i5/OS? (We would rather stay away from another chargeable licensed program, unless the benefits it provides make it a "must have" tool.) Are any device configuration changes required, e.g. AFP(*YES)? Any assistance, code samples, etc. would be appreciated. Thank you. -mark -------------------------------------------------------------------- mail2web - Check your email from the web at http://mail2web.com/ . -- This is the Midrange Systems Technical Discussion (MIDRANGE-L) mailing list To post a message email: MIDRANGE-L@xxxxxxxxxxxx To subscribe, unsubscribe, or change list options, visit: http://lists.midrange.com/mailman/listinfo/midrange-l or email: MIDRANGE-L-request@xxxxxxxxxxxx Before posting, please take a moment to review the archives at http://archive.midrange.com/midrange-l.
