The entire "express" line of 520's are aimed
at the "small" business. Why would they offer
a $11,000 - $50,000 box and NOT offer a lease ???

I have an IBM Global Finance lease for a very small 520 Express Edition
(was under $15k). It did take me asking the reseller twice (and I later determined "he" was the one saying IBM wouldn't take me....he probably got a bigger fee to induce me to borrow elsewhere). Now, I did have to prove more to IBM than some other finance companies. They do operate a better grade portfolio of loans.

Exactly where do you think any "new accounts" are
going to come from ???

If you start an account with the Iseries, it is
very unlikely that they will leave.

If you choose to ignore those accounts, somebody
else will pick them right up.(Windows/Unix/etc)

In my opinion, that is the "exact" reason for the
decline of the box. IBM has been living off existing
accounts for several years and can continue for quite
some time.

No new small accounts will be the downfall
of the of the entire line eventually.

The 50 and under is the group that IBM is currently ignoring.
I was told this month that IBM credit will not even consider
a lease on a company with under 50 employees.<<

The last paragraph make perfect sense for IBM from a business
perspective. While it may be true that businesses with under 50 are a
majority in the case of numbers, they don't spend any where near what
the larger companies do when it comes to technology. IBM is in
business to make money. (I know it is unpopular and unwanted by many in
this country, but we still are an capitalist system even though I'll
admit the turn has been made to socialism and worse via expectation that
all basic "needs" of life are entitlements from government or company.)
If there were a sufficient money stream in the "ma and pas", IBM would
be there.
