SELECT COUNT (*) FROM MYLIB/TEST WHERE ODOBAT = 'RPGLE'

My only concern about this is that it'll include *MODULEs, and *SRVPGMs (and anything else that might have 'RPGLE' as an attribute) in addition to *PGM objects when it returns the count.

If that's not what the original poster wants, consider adding the object type to the WHERE clause:

 SELECT COUNT (*) FROM MYLIB/TEST WHERE ODOBAT='RPGLE' AND ODOBTP='*PGM'
