In V5R3 and V5R4, since you have the ability to install multiple PTF packages at once using GO PTF option 8, you can install the groups, the cume, and then IPL. Its much quicker. While you are right, it worked for 20 years, that was V5R2 and below. Its not your grandfather's AS/400 anymore. :) Pete Massiello ---------------------------- Original Message ---------------------------- Subject: RE: V5r4 Upgrade, IPL required between Cume and Group PTF installs From: "Paul E. You should ALWAYS install the cume, IPL, and then install the groups after the INZSYS completes when doing an OS upgrade. I don't remember the exact terminology but I'm pretty sure you get a message when trying to install the groups before the INZSYS completes and it won't let you. When doing a ptf install only I do the groups first then the cume followed by one IPL. Has worked for 20 years! However, the v5r4 upgrade instructions seem to be pretty clear to install the cume PTFs prior to installing group PTFs. My question is, do you need to do the automatic IPL for the cume PTFs to be applied (and wait for INZSYS to complete) before installing the group PTFs? I don't remember how I did the v5r3 upgrade <grin> Thanks, Charles Wilt -- iSeries Systems Administrator / Developer Mitsubishi Electric Automotive America ph: 513-573-4343 fax: 513-398-1121 -- This is the Midrange Systems Technical Discussion (MIDRANGE-L) mailing list To post a message email: MIDRANGE-L@xxxxxxxxxxxx To subscribe, unsubscribe, or change list options, visit: http://lists.midrange.com/mailman/listinfo/midrange-l or email: MIDRANGE-L-request@xxxxxxxxxxxx Before posting, please take a moment to review the archives at http://archive.midrange.com/midrange-l. -- This is the Midrange Systems Technical Discussion (MIDRANGE-L) mailing list To post a message email: MIDRANGE-L@xxxxxxxxxxxx To subscribe, unsubscribe, or change list options, visit: http://lists.midrange.com/mailman/listinfo/midrange-l or email: MIDRANGE-L-request@xxxxxxxxxxxx Before posting, please take a moment to review the archives at http://archive.midrange.com/midrange-l.
