Thank you, Charles. I was defaulting on the type and that was the problem. When I work with the image catalog (WRKIMGCLGE IMGCATALOG) I can see that the disc image is mounted and I can view the directories.

Alas, my saga continues.

Steps taken to try to install by accepting the license agreement beforehand:
GO LICPGM
5. Prepare for install
Work with software agreements
F22 Restore software agreements.
Device . . . OPTVRT01

Result:
Unexpected media error on device OPTVRT01.

Steps taken to try to install without accepting the license agreement beforehand:
GO LICPGM
11. Install licensed programs
5722JC1 *BASE Toolbox for Java
Installation Device . . . OPTVRT01
Objects to install . . . 1=Programs and language objects
Nonaccepted agreement . . . 2=Display software agreement
Automatic IPL . . . N

Result:
Work with licensed programs function not complete.

From 50. Display log for message:
Licensed program installation process started.
Media not valid for installation function requested.
Licensed program installation process failed.

Larry, I don't have access to a local i5. We only have the one. I would think if I can see the contents of the disc image then it'd be valid?

Thanks,
Alfred

What are you specifying in the TYPE param of the VFYIMGCLG command?

It defaults to *UPGRADE which is not what you want.

Make sure you are using:

VFYIMGCLG IMGCLG(IMGCATALOG) TYPE(*OTHER)

Note that with TYPE(*OTHER) SORT is not used.

HTH,

Charles Wilt

Subject: Image Catalog Caveats?

I've been trying to install the Java Toolbox (5722JC1) onto an i5 a state away by utilizing an image catalog. The image catalog part of the equation appears to be working fine until I try to verify it after loading the disc image I created from a CD.

I created a virtual optical drive and varied it on:
CRTDEVOPT DEVD(OPTVRT01) RSRCNAME(*VRT) ONLINE(*YES) TEXT('Virtual optical drive for image catalog.')
VRYCFG CFGOBJ(OPTVRT01) CFGTYPE(*DEV) STATUS(*ON)

I created an image catalog:
CRTIMGCLG IMGCLG(IMGCATALOG) DIR('/IMGCatalog') CRTDIR(*YES) TEXT('image catalog')

I created a level 1 iso 9660 disc image and copied it to /IMGCatalog' then added it to the image catalog: ADDIMGCLGE IMGCLG(IMGCATALOG) FROMFILE('/IMGCatalog/D2924_04.iso') TOFILE(*FROMFILE) REPLACE(*INSERT)

I loaded the image catalog unto the virtual optical drive:
LODIMGCLG IMGCLG(IMGCATALOG) DEV(OPTVRT01)

Then failure:
VFYIMGCLG IMGCLG(IMGCATALOG) SORT(*YES)

Any pointers on where I might have gone wrong would be helpful.

David Gibbs and these links have been helpful to me:
