I guess one question would be do you need all the features in the FC #5035 or could you survive without them?
If you can try the upgrade and have Very good backups AND time to revert back if it fails you may consider giving it a shot.
Note that you need a 17GB Load Source drive for V5R4 which were fairly rare on 820 machines.
