I have found SPOOLMAIL from Gumbo Software to be a fine and cost effective
system.

If you want to use SNDDST, you need to:

   1. In the iSeries character-based interface, type: ADDDIRE
USRID(INTERNET GATEWAY) USRD('Allow SNDDST to send INTERNET Mail')
SYSNAME(INTERNET) MSFSRVLVL(*USRIDX) PREFADR(NETUSRID *IBM ATCONTXT)
   2. Type CHGDSTA SMTPRTE(INTERNET GATEWAY) and press Enter.

Also, every profile you want to send email needs to be in the system
distribution directory.

Note, SNDDST may be free, but I wouldn't recommend using it. Biggest
limitation is that it can only send attachments out of the QDLS file
system. The QDLS file system is limited and very slow, you should stay
away from it as much as possible.

I realize that you say you only need to send one email a day. But I
guarantee that once you show you're users that you can send email,
they'll be asking for all kinds of email.

You can also expect to be asked to email out spool files very soon. So
consider just getting a tool or tool package that can convert and send
spool files as email along with just being able to send regular email
messages.

I'd recommend:
1) Brads MAILTOOL/SPLTOOL/AFPTOOL combo
http://www.bvstools.com/spltoolsuite.html
2) Gumbo's products http://www.gumbo.com/Licpgm/Position.html
3) @riadne Products http://www.ariadnesoftware.com/
