Weeeeeel not the *ONLY Trick :-)

Based on *experience you will want to be absolutely sure that you use the Restore to Different System option (ALWOBJDIF(*ALL)) or you will have a major problem with the C: and D: Drives, as in they will not be there. All your other storage will be OK but C: will be replaced with a small partition that boots into, are you ready: DOS!

It's likely in this scenario that you would use ALWOBJDIF(*ALL) anyway but in case you blow it, and don't this will cause you pain., The pain is exacerbated by the fact that the /qfpnwsstg/ directory where the *NWSSTG space lives is almost always near the end of your tapes......

Also remember that you cannot simply do a CRTNWSD and then vary it on becuase in the install process that thing gets updated with the version of Windows on the server and it needs to know that for vary on processing. So Trevor's comment about keeping the source around for documentation is exactly correct, it's only documentation.

David,

If the DR IXS is the same as yours (or compatible as a hot spare), then all

you will need is for the NWSD to be correctly configured. If not, you may
have to create a new one, but that is a snap. You would just have to ensure

the RESOURCE name is pointing at the right IXS. Once the NWSSTGs are
restored, and the NWSD is correct, link them and vary ON.

I suggest you retrieve the source of your current NWSD configuration - that

will be good documentation for what needs to be in place on the DR box.

Hot spare compatibility is outlined here:

Hope this helps,
Trevor

Subject: DR and IXS

I read through all archived posts regarding DR and the IXS but have a
question on the restore process.

We currently have a contract with IBM to provide us with a replacement
AS400
in the event of a disaster. In the contract, it states we will be
supplied
at least an equivalent if not better AS400 at our DR site. We are
planning
on restoring our system from, first a full system save, and then from our
most current backups. If they supply us with a similar AS400 and the
exact
same IXS card, will the IXS drives be restored and operational after the
Go
Restore, Option 21. Or will we still have to allocate the storage
space,
etc?

I understand from earlier posts that a different card would require a
re-load of the Windows OS.

Thanks,
