Have 2 customers who want to do it at > end of May. Scheduled for the middle of July. It was originally scheduled for the long July 1 - 4 weekend, but the accounting trolls need to close the books on July 3rd, as our UK parent refuses to recognize the legitimacy of the holiday ;). I only have one concern after reading the Memo to Users and going through the upgrade checklist: indications that system state programs that are not from IBM will not be restorable at V5R4. I've seen this mentioned in 3rd party literature, but if it is the official documentation, I haven't seen it. Some popular packages have the odd program that runs in system state (DBU - 1, S4i Express - 1, etc.). Yet when I call the vendors, they all tell me that the software will run in V5R4. Just what does that mean: - that you can't restore a non-IBM system state program, but one already on the system will not be impaired? - that you can restore non-IBM system state programs and the third party literature is wrong? - that I've totally misunderstood what I read? Until I have another chance to go back and look at it, I cannot rule out that last one. But I do wish some of these articles would go into a little more detail: http://www.itjungle.com/fhs/fhs013106-story02.html http://www.asu-columbus.org/ASUData/2006/Ohio%20User%20Group%20V5R4.pdf For the present I am assuming that the big lock-out of system state programs will occur at a future time and is not implemented in V5R4: http://archive.midrange.com/mi400/200511/msg00013.html. While I respect Bruce, I just wish I could get a more formal notification of the implementation than an email.
