Lou, ~I~ am not IBM or responsible for the name change.

Keith, Lou,

AS/400 is certainly much OLDER technology than a System i5. It is ironic that the rest of the industry thinks an AS/400 is outdated, but we don't. System i5 is definitely NOT an alias for AS/400.

There is a lot of new technology and tools available to us. I offer you ILE. The percentage of iSeries and AS/400 shops who actually use ILE is VERY small. And that technology is 12 years old. Yes, we need new underwear....

It appears IBM subscribes to a corollary of (2).
(2a) A new name implies new technology.
(2b) The newer the name, the newer the technology.

Everybody around here calls it an AS/400 because of (1) familiarity, not

I certainly plead "guilty" to (1), but I laugh openly at the
generalization you proceed to at (2). I am not "afraid" of new
technology, but only weary of wasting resources on learning your
constantly-changing aliases.
