The p5 competes in much more price competitive market than a i5. Someone buying an i5 is probably running an application specific to an i5. Even if IBM priced an i5 the same as a p5, I doubt it would significantly increase sales. The barriers to the i5 are more it's legacy image and declining application base. Alternately for example, I'm currently working at shop that is going SAP and has just chosen a p5 570 over systems from HP or SUN. It simply came down to a matter of price.
