Traditionally a p5 is used to run Linux or AIX. They are made on the same
assembly line in Rochester as the i5. They are priced cheaper because
there is competition. i5 users IBM figures they have by the shorthairs.
They could be using green screen, like telnet or ftp. But it is not 5250
telnet. It primarily uses a command interface, but no one witches about
it because the press gods seem to favor it over the command interface many
people use on i5/os. There are numerous graphical shells available, just
like on i5. But instead of iSeries Navigator and other such packages,
they have ones that are tailored more for unix or linux.
Now, I believe that you can get a limited i5/os partition on it. However,
IBM puts all sorts of govenors on it to protect the markup that they get
on i5's.
