1. Is there a way in CL to get the first filename (alpha sorted) in a
directory?

There is a DIR command floating about on the Web (search the archives for a URL) that will create an outfile list of stream files.

2. What is the easiest way to get a list of
  a. Source Physical Files

DSPFD TYPE(*ATR | *MBR) to an outfile. Column PHDTAT or MBDTAT contains an S for source files.

  b. Source Members

DSPFD TYPE(*MBRLIST | *MBR) to an outfile depending on whether you want the list sorted by name or creation date. There are other differences in the data returned but that's the major one.

I need this to "archive" the origonal source before the patch is installed.
(Just incase there is a problem)

Isn't that what the SAVE commands are for?

Simon Coulter.
