    We currently (on the old box), run SPLS and define an independent LU on the 
AS/400, which talks to a switched major node on the mainframe.  The process is 
interactive - User pushes a button on his as AS/400 screen, it populates his 
screen with data from both the AS/400 and the mainframe CICS region.  In the 
CICS region, it's an ISC session using APPC.
 
    Our folks use TN5250 to access the machine.
