My primary concern is whether COMMON will work with the LUGs to coordinate
things, or will simply schedule things as suits them. For example, I
probably wouldn't mind COMMON helping us with a day of education provided we
had it scheduled well in advance. On the other hand, I'd be really ticked
off if COMMON decided out of the blue to hold an event in the same timeframe
as, for instance, the V5R4 announcement we have coming up next week.

I guess it really depends on whether the focus is on bringing information to
the end users or on picking low-hanging fruit. If it's the former, I will
expect to see the COMMON-sponsored events focusing on smaller population
centers that can't really afford the speakers. And if that's truly the
case, then I will be the first to get on the bandwagon. If on the other
hand the first COMMON mini-events are scheduled for places like Chicago then
it will be clear that the focus isn't on education, it's on money.

Just my .02

Joe
