There's three parts of the cost to consider: 1 - The cost of the IXS card versus the cost of a separate server box. This fluctuates depending on IBM announcements. 2 - The cost of disk on the iSeries versus the cost of the disk in the separate server box. iSeries disk is overpriced. To say otherwise is to drink the IBM Kool Aid. But whether or not that skews the TCO is up to you. 3 - TCO or Total Cost of Ownership. Technicians here have had "issues" on IXS cards that would have been a lot harder to fix on a separate box. Virtual lan is pretty fast. May be a consideration if much of the data to this server is between other IXS cards or the iSeries itself. Rob Berendt
