There is one additional exit point that can be used to control device names - it is the the device selection exit program (new with V5R2). http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/iseries/v5r3/topic/apis/xpgmdevs.htm >From the API documentation ... The exit program can: 1. Reject a specific name for a device connection request. 2. Specify a naming pattern to be used for the automatic creation of a virtual device. This is used only if a specific device name was not requested on the client's connection request. 3. Specify the naming pattern of the virtual controller to be used: to search in an attempt to select an existing device (if a specific device name was not requested on the client's connection request) or to specify a controller to which to attach the automatically created device. This naming pattern is also used to 'count' the number of existing devices toward the automatic creation limit. 4. Specify a second controller naming pattern to be used to 'count' the number of existing virtual devices. 5. Specify the number of devices that can exist on the virtual controllers whose naming pattern is specified. You can also assign it on the iSeries side with a "Telnet Device Initialization Exit Program". I know I've written them, and posted them to the mailing lists here in the past, though I don't remember how long ago. --- Scott Klement http://www.scottklement.com On Tue, 10 Jan 2006, Larry Bolhuis wrote: > > Can terminals that are auto created be named something other than > QPADEVnnnn? > -- This is the Midrange Systems Technical Discussion (MIDRANGE-L) mailing list To post a message email: MIDRANGE-L@xxxxxxxxxxxx To subscribe, unsubscribe, or change list options, visit: http://lists.midrange.com/mailman/listinfo/midrange-l or email: MIDRANGE-L-request@xxxxxxxxxxxx Before posting, please take a moment to review the archives at http://archive.midrange.com/midrange-l.
