Chuck, Simply creating the message queue QSYSMSG automatically gets some messages that normally appear in QSYSOPR also to appear in QSYSMSG. However, by WRKSYSVAL QUPSMSGQ you can have messages go to a different message queue. People often do. Then they have a cl program that looks something like: Wait: RCVMSG ... /* Wait indefinitely for power failure messages */ /* Got a message */ RCVMSG ... /* Wait a few seconds/minutes in case it's just a quick power burp */ MONMSG ... DO /* Time out waiting for power restored message. */ /* Bring system down in an orderly fashion */ ... GoTo END EndDo /* got the power restored message */ goto wait end: Rob Berendt
