I've been using Javamail for over a year, and haven't had any problems.
I also don't find it much slower than a QtmmSendMail wrapper I wrote.

We use David Leland's SNDEMAIL utility and have found it extrememly
reliable - it works with the standard SMTP server on the iSeries and
uses the QtmmSendMail API.

I've heard that Brad's MAILTOOL is very cheap and also does a good job
sending mail.  I believe he wrote his own SMTP server so the IBM version
is not necessary.
