External disk for the iSeries or i5 work very much the same as internal. What you are indicating from your question is that you used or want to use Open systems storage for iSeries but that would only be done via an NFS mount option and only support IFS files at the folder level, not traditional objects as internal or external DASD. Today for iSeries and i5 you have two options from IBM... ESS (shark) or the newer DSS... as well as EMC Symmetrix or DMX there are no other DASD storage options today. Rick
