Also - with the advent of the load source-free LPAR in the past quarter
or so, it makes this much more attractive. Although I have not spoken
with anyone doing iSeries to external disk of the new variety (DS6800,
DS8000), the older ESS worked just fine on the iSeries, although not as
fast as internal disk in most cases.

YMMV, naturally.

Subject: i5 External Disk Questions

Does anyone use external Disk? I'm finding that I need to add a
tremendous amount of disk for an archive function. Internal disk works
great, but it's way more expensive than I can justify.

My vendor says they have used FASTT / EXP400 and JETSTORE, But I don't
know anything about any of these. One of my coworkers has spected out
an Xserver RAID solution from Apple Store.

What do I need to look at. What are the 'gotchas'. I know I saw
somewhere where there is a external disk 'problem' between i5s and fiber
attached disks of certain kinds. I just don't remember where I saw this
information.

Any input to increase my limited knowledge would be much appreciated.

Thanks
