It's hard to handle this via software on the iSeries (at least when using a 5250 interface) because the entire screen and all it's fields are handed off to the 5250 terminal (or emulator). Word wrap pretty much has to be implemented in the emulator itself. All the iSeries can really do is send a signal to it that says "hey emulator! You should use word wrap on this field!". (Which is what the WRDWRAP keyword does.)

And, of course, the emulator developers must all copy what IBM did when they wrote PC5250, or the customers will claim that it's "wrong." So you're pretty much stuck with the WRDWRAP the way it is until IBM changes it in iSeries Access!

Naturally, it's not a problem if you use other interfaces (GUI or Web)
