Hi Steve,

It must be something like that. Have a look at :
http://www-03.ibm.com/servers/eserver/iseries/service/brms/pdf/savpost3.pdf
This poster gives a good idea of what to do when saving and recovering.

If you recover to another system, you may have to adapt the configuration to
the new hardware resources. It's possible that you have to change network
addresses such as IP parameters (address, mask and gateway). Can be done by a
simple CLP program.

Sure you have to recover journal files or to initialyse them.

What about spool files ? We save those we need by using SAVSPLF and restore
them with RSTSPLF. You find this stuff here :
http://www.the400resource.com/iseries/code/index.asp?sid=12&p=3

Did you think about software keys ? No problem with IBM software. You can try
them up to 70 days. But if you use other key protected software and if key is
machine dependent, you must get a new one. Can be done by a program too.

This is what we do. And it works well.

Hope I didn't forget anything.

Objet : Disaster Recovery test scenario

List -

We will soon do our first-ever disaster recovery test. I anticipate that we
will be given a 'clean' machine when we walk into the DR site. Is this an
accurate series of events?

Restricted State:
 - Load OS/400 and LIC (from save 21 tape)
 - RSTUSRPRF *ALL (from nightly save)
 - RSTCFG *ALL (from nightly save)
 - RSTLIB DISASTER (from nightly save)
Note: We have a library called DISASTER which contains a 'restore'
version of our nightly
'save' and a copy of the file containing the names of libraries saved in
the nightly save - QGPL
and QUSRSYS are included in the file but not all libraries on the system.
- Run DISASTER/RESTORE program to restore libraries from nightly save
- RSTDLO DLO(*ALL) SAVFLR(*ANY)
- RST DEV('/QSYS.LIB/your tape drive.DEVD')
       OBJ(('/*') ('/QSYS.LIB' *OMIT) ('/QDLS' *OMIT))
- RSTAUT

Questions:
How do you feel about the idea of having a DISASTER library with a RESTORE
program?
What problems would you foresee?
Will the process work as written above?

Thanks,

Steve
