Guy, I tried this on my system (V5R2, Excel 2003):
create table lg/guy
(datefield date not null,
alphafield char(3) not null)
insert into lg/guy (datefield,alphafield)
values('12/12/2005','One')
insert into lg/guy (datefield,alphafield)
values('12/31/2005','Two')
select * from lg/guy
....+....1....+....2..
DATEFIELD ALPHAFIELD
2005-12-12 One
2005-12-31 Two
Excel -> Transfer data from iSeries
New transfer request
File: lg/guy
Format options: Date format: (USA) USA Standard
DATEFIELD ALPHAFIELD
12/12/2005 One
12/31/2005 Two
You can go into cells C2 & C3 with the formulas:
=DAY(A2)
=DAY(A3)
Yields the results 12 and 31, respectively.
Highlighting A3 (12/31/2005) and dragging down yields
DATEFIELD ALPHAFIELD
12/12/2005 One 12
12/31/2005 Two 31
12/31/2006
12/31/2007
12/31/2008
12/31/2009
Date fields work fine here.
I think you should change the date format during the data transfer as above.

Subject: Dates into Excel
Anyone found a way of getting a file off of an iSeries (using Client
Access Data Transfer) and into Excel with the date fields correctly
configured in Excel as dates.
At the moment, I'm having to do Format -> Cell in Excel to get it to
recognise them as dates.
