RE: UPS attachment problem on i5 520

Just the other day we receive a low battery warning on our 520.  Funny
part is, we do not have a cable to the UPS.  But our 520 did an
emergency power down.  Upon re-boot it said it was hot, so it shut down
again.  Yet all the fans were running and the room temp is 68f.  8 hours
later we had a new control panel installed and the system is running
just fine but that extremely bright yellow light will not go out.  I
went into SST and cleared all the errors, reset any flags but the light
is still glowing brightly.  Any one know how to turn it off... Without
cutting it out?

I think IBM really messed up with the 520's.

As a heads up-

If you:

1) have an i5 520 with UPS cable attached
2) apply an FSP PTF (these are the 5722-999 ones that start with "MH")
3) Do a PWRDWNSYS RESTART(*YES)

Then your UPS cable is no longer recognized by the i5 and you are _not_
protected by any user written program that monitors the UPS.  You have
to do
a cold start to get it rerecognized.

And there is no way, per IBM, for we the end users to check for that
problem
via the ASM, SST, or user program.  It requires a CE.  (Although I don't
know if those of you with HMCs have a way to check it.)

IBM is working on 1) a PTF to fix the problem, and 2) a way for the end
user
to check for proper UPS attachment.

I do not know whether this affects any systems other than the 520.
