When you enter the world of email hosting, be aware
that your server seemingly automatically becomes the
target of malicious spam related attacks, daily. Also
watch out for people wanting to use your server for
mail relay.

I was hosting just two (2) email accounts on my
iSeries but my box was hammered relentlessly, day,
night, and weekends by spammers sending stuff to
thousands accounts like bozo@xxxxxxxxxxxx, even though
"bozo" didn't exist on my server.

I was having problem with my DSL line failing, which
seemed to be related to these attacks. I finally used
the service that hosts my domain name to block all
incoming email to my AS/400. I now occasionally use
the AS/400 SMTP server for outgoing mail, but incoming
is blocked. Life is better.
