1. I do a GO SAVE 21 2. When it gets done, I check that message that everything went swell3. After it has finished restarting the system, I do the END ALL SUBSYSTEMS except what is needed for the main console (I have this as a menu option already setup) 4. After that got done, I specifically start two subsystems QSPL (reports) and QBATCH (JOBQ) leaving all the rest shut down (such as QINTER) which will let me do end month updates without risk of someone signing on in the middle of some step that needs to be run with no one else on BPCS ... there are OS/400 error messages that I aint supposed to be doing this, but I now been doing it for years and getting away with it
5. I use the main console to run the critical EOM update jobs6. When I get done with all the EOM update jobs, I do ANOTHER GO SAVE 21, on a diferent backup tape, so I have one from before, and from after the EOM update runs, and at the end of the second one, the system is back to normal again
7. I also check that message that the backup went swellI normally not awake at this hour, but I woke up with TV on, could not find the clicker to turn it off, then the search for the clicker prevented me from going back to sleeep.
I'm going to be upgrading my system this weekend so a very good backup is very important.I would like to do a "go save 21" (Save entire system). The wrinkle is, I need to leave the system in a restricted state when this finishes.Would the best way of doing this be to change QMNSRBND to not do a STRSBS QCTL? Is there another way?If I modify QMNSRBND would I need to rename the program in QSYS and move the modified program to QSYS temporarily?Any other ideas? Thanks for any help.
