I echo Rob's comments. The reason that you buy an iSeries is to get one integrated solution from one vendor. and when it breaks, you have one number to call with no finger pointing. On our development machine we use our ECS IBM 7852-400 modem. I don't think the earlier ECS modems would have worked as I don't believe they supported fax. On our production machine we use IBM 2805 cards. They are a small card that has four ports. You plug your phone jacks right into the ports. We do graphics and overlays. It can be used for inbound, but we don't use that. Instead we use Domino fax for iSeries using DID lines. So far today we've sent out 83 faxes. That's about what we've averaged the last few days. Number of pages per fax varies. http://www-03.ibm.com/servers/eserver/iseries/fax400/ http://www-03.ibm.com/support/techdocs/atsmastr.nsf/585741c64201a45286256ccf00653ad4/c8468d5452afa87385256d8c0016dc7e?OpenDocument Rob Berendt -- Group Dekko Services, LLC Dept 01.073 PO Box 2000 Dock 108 6928N 400E Kendallville, IN 46755 http://www.dekko.com Douglas Handy <dhandy@xxxxxxxxx> Sent by: midrange-l-bounces@xxxxxxxxxxxx 09/29/2005 10:56 AM Please respond to Midrange Systems Technical Discussion <midrange-l@xxxxxxxxxxxx> To MIDRANGE-L@xxxxxxxxxxxx cc Fax to Subject Outbound fax from 400 What recommendations do people have for a product to allow outbound faxes to be generated from the 400? Inbound fax is not needed. Outbound can be simple text only; graphics and overlays are not required. Volume is estimated at up to 40 pages per day. I don't care if it is a spool file redirect, APIs from RPG, or emails which get converted by a gateway to a fax destination. Whatever is the most cost effective for this type of volume. If an email gateway is not used, what hardware is recommended? Can the ECS modem in a 270 be used for outbound faxes?
