> Microsoft has a clear goal to replace every iSeries > with a Wintel box... Just one Wintel box? Continuing my brief account of replacing a PHP application with an RPG application, I asked what kind of computer was hosting the PHP server, which eventually led to a tour of their temperature controlled computer room. In one corner stood a tall rack of Wintel blade servers accompanied by an array of SCSI drives. It turned out that one of the blades was hosting the PHP server. Other Wintel servers of various ages were scattered across a number of tables, most with a monitor and keyboard. We visited a large closet where more Wintel servers cluttered the floor. My host commented about the proliferation of Wintel servers at satellite locations throughout the county. It took an army of technicians to maintain them. In comparison, the small iSeries model 520 in the computer room seemed rather inconspicuous. Nathan Andelin. __________________________________ Yahoo!
