But how to do you know the public retraction will reach the same
people?  Why not insist on an email sent to the same distribution list
(surely they have it...) with the retraction and apology plus a
statement from your company?

I hate to recommend yet another spam going out, but in this case I
believe it could be justified to help clear up what could cause damage
to your company?  How many people got the letter and thought "I'll
boycott these vendors." but who *won't* see an apology made on this
list?
