But how to do you know the public retraction will reach the same people? Why not insist on an email sent to the same distribution list (surely they have it...) with the retraction and apology plus a statement from your company?
Personally, I'd rather see a lawsuit against the midrangenews.net people that prevents them from ever sending out another e-mail.
Then, follow up with your OWN mail to the original list (which the lawsuit can help you obtain) that apologizes and explains that you've taken legal action against them.
Personally, I'd like to see as many spammers as possible shut down -- and this is a good excuse to shut one of them down.
