On our test system we use the ECS modem as a faxline and often the system can't call home because the faxline is varied on. Another possibility: When we upgraded that system to V5R3 all of the PPP configs failed. After spending about a month working on this with SupportLine we finally just decided to give up on the PPP config and go back to the old SNA setup. This is a 7852-400 modem on a 170. I tried the F14 and I am still waiting on the call back a few hours later. Unless they got smart and tied in the modem call to the similarity to the voice call.
