On a V5R2 system at PTF cum level C4244520 the CHGTCPDMN is set to HOSTSCHPTY(*LOCAL). When the connection to the DNS server is unreachable the system waits just over a minute (63 seconds) before starting a PING test, despite the fact the name and IP address for the router being tested IS present in the local TCP/IP host table. The DMNSVRRTY setting is (3 4) (3 retries 4 seconds apart) - and there two IP addresses listed for DNS servers, so the delay of just over 60 seconds makes no sense either - even if it was trying to contact the DNS servers and failing. I'm testing pings to an internal IP address of a router, sitting 10 feet from the system, connected to a D-Link 10/100 switch. If you have the host name search priority set to search the local host table first, it should not even attempt to look for a DNS server, it should resolve the address instantly and start the ping. If I ping the router by IP address the ping starts instantly. Anyone else have trouble with this? ...Neil
