This bit one of my customers the other night. Without talking to me, he
backed up his Domino stuff while the databases were still in use, even
though he did a save while active. His restore to another machine was a
waste of time.

The checkpoint processing would complete, however your backup could be bad!
If your backup was bad because of updating during the checkpoint, save
would still tell you that you have a good save!

Would the checkpoint processing still complete if the data wasn't
completely quiesced? (Hope i'm spelling that right... first time using the
term... hehe)

John,

I hope you are not updating during the checkpointing period.

Don/Walden -

Are you on V5R3 and have you two investigated the fast
checkpointing/save-while-active for your shops? We're checkpointing 203
libraries (a full *ALLUSR) with many thousands of objects in under 20
minutes and are getting a good save every night. No downtime
whatsoever.

(And Joe and I are going back and forth about 35GB disk while you guys
apparently have at least twice the amount of space needed for data
alone...)
