The internal search function is temporarily non-functional. The current search engine is no longer viable and we are researching alternatives.
As a stop gap measure, we are using Google's custom search engine service.
If you know of an easy to use, open source, search engine ... please contact support@midrange.com.
We did this with an earlier model of AS/400 (a model 270 with an 800Mhz
IPCS) It worked well but we didn't see an inherent advantage to having
the "integration" of the IPCS. If you have apps that use something like
MS Access or other apps that are moving a lot of data to/from the
iSeries, the "integrated" approach is great because of the virtual lan
connection between the x-server and iSeries is fast, otherwise, we
didn't have a compelling reason to continue down that path.
However, as I understand it, the cross-management capabilities have
improved.
We are looking at using VNC in the PASE environment to serve up
X-Windows desktops that do just 5250 and web browsing. In that
environment, everything runs on the iSeries with no other hardware
required. Most X-Windows clients are supported.
