Here's my opinion - HMC is much more intuitive, friendly, and appealing to use for LPARing a system and managing multiple boxes than green screen LPAR was or could ever be. I'll admit that in its early iterations it may not have been the best, and right now there's still things which look-and-feel and speed-wise don't quite meet the standards we'd like, but overall it's a very nice system and I enjoy managing i5 machines with it. Also - I've got a feeling it's around to stay (moreso than twinax, whose demise has been announced), so I say we help IBM in suggesting enhancements and reporting these bugs rather than naysaying the HMC. What level of software are you running on the HMC? We have not had to re-boot the HMC since it has been running V4.4. The last time it did require an unplanned re-boot was back at V4.3.2 - and that is an HMC controlling 4 systems, total of 19 partitions. I don't know about general consensus, but I know we don't tolerate our p5's locking up - if they did, we would replace them with something that doesn't lock up. The unplanned downtime on both our p and i systems are about the same - which is minimal.
