It's not entirely a question of Browser vs. 5250. There may be some overlap between the two domains, but there's also some separation. We have people in payroll and accounting who primarily prefer 5250 interfaces. On the other hand, we have teachers in classrooms who have Macintosh workstations, and prefer an entirely point & click interface. Following is a shot of an screen that enables elementary school teachers to record reading comprehension test scores for students in their classes. Each measurement has an associated popup, enabling all measurements to be recorded with just two (2) mouse clicks. Popups are downloaded with the score sheet so that displaying them is just a matter clicking the input box, which toggles their visibility attribute on or off. There's no server I/O during the recording process. The entire score sheet is submitted as a batch. http://www.relational-data.com/ascent/dra.html Something like this challenges the conventional wisdom that 5250 is always more efficient for data entry. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
