Just a quick note that Treo radio performance sometimes improves with
firmware updates and the latest PRL. You may want to see if your units
are current.

John, I agree, the Treo is a great unit. I have had both a CDMA
(Sprint)
and GSM Treo600. When I switched to GSM (Cingular) back in October, I
got a
PPC PDA2K. The PPC platform was not nearly as good, and I switched back
to
a Treo. But, my 600 is getting a tad older and it is time for something
new. I have ruled out all the PPC devices, and the only thing I have to
have is a TN5250 emulator. Some of the Nokia (9300/9550) look
interesting,
but do not have 850 GSM, so that is a deal breaker on Cingular.
Motorola
has a very interesting Linux/J2ME smartphone, but there arent many apps
for
it, and NO TN5250 emulator. The Sony product looks good to me, but if I
can
not find a TN5250 emulator, the only choice I have is the Treo. I have
been
to TC many time, and have been registered there for several years. I
don't
think the radio is much better in the 650. It is a shame. My wife's
plain
old cheap nokia does not break up when she uses it in our house, my Treo
is
marginal. I am hoping the SE910a might be better (it is reported to be
very
good in the radio department). I may just buy one and mess with it, as
long
as I can return it. I will keep my trusty Treo though. I'm not going
to
sell it, like I did my original one, and then go back and buy another.
I
can be pretty dumb at times.

CDMA/Sprint. The radio seems to be a tad better than the 600, but not
greatly so. I haven't investigated GSM so I couldn't say if the 650's
GSM
radio is any better than the 600s. You might consider spending a few
minutes over at treocentral.com's forums to read about the good, the
bad,
and the ugly. For me, the screen alone practically justifies the
upgrade;
the incremental improvements everywhere else cemented it. And the
functionality offered would make it a royal pain to switch to a plan cel
phone.

What other device is a phone, PDA, MP3 player that can stream audio from
the
internet, USB & Bluetooth flash drive, portable game machine, document
editor, email manager, and web browser that doesn't have ties to
Microsoft?

Thanks John. I am seriously considering the Treo as well, but I really
need
a better phone. The RF performance of my Treo600 is a little weak
compared
to say my wife's el cheapo Nokia. Do you have the GSM or CDMA version?

I upgraded from the Treo600 to the 650 and just moved my Mocha install
to
the new Treo. I later upgraded to a newer Mocha version for color
support.
Very nice & nothing to buy as the Mocha license is 'portable' to the new
device.

I currently have a PalmOS Treo600 and love the Mochasoft emulator to
connect
to my AS400s. I am looking at either the Treo650 but also the Sony
Ericsson
p910a which runs Symbian UIQ. Mochasoft does not list any products for
this
phone, but does sell software for the Nokia 9300/9500 and series 60
smartphones that also run Symbian. When I asked their support of one of
the
Nokia emulators would work, they said to contact Sony Ericsson.

Anyone out there have this smartphone (or a p900 or p800) and use a 5250
emulator.

Lack of a 5250 emulator is a total deal beaker for me.
