You won't see them in NotePad, except as funny characters, maybe, because NotePad is a text editor only. Word itself can do search/replace. You really need something that'll let you see the hex codes. TextPad is a fantastic text editor that also lets you open a file in binary mode. Then, once you figure out what ASCII code corresponds to the EBCDIC attribute byte, you can do searches in Word for these things. You want to search with wildcards between the attribute-setting byte and the attribute-reset-to-normal byte - that one is usually an x'20' in EBCDIC. Then, based on the attribute, change the format of what is found. Once you've done all the strings that are surrounded by the attribute bytess, you need to go back and change the attribute bytes themselves to blanks with no formatting. You also want, in DSPPFM, to use F10 to see the hex code values, then compare to the ones in the ASCII version for how to map the attribute bytes to the proper format. Good luck - and take a look at the Application Display Programming manual - I think there's a chart there of attribute byte values.
