IPDS printers are those defined TYPE(*IPDS) AFP(*NO) "AFPDS" printers are those defined TYPE(*IPDS) AFP(*YES) So yes, an "AFPDS" printer can print *IPDS spool files, both types need an IPDS memory chip to communicate using the IPDS protocol. If you can't, you probably don't have a real "AFPDS" printer. I suspect that you have a LAN attached ASCII printer, i.e.. an HP LaserJet, and that Host Print Transform (HPT) is converting AFPDS to PCL. HPT will not convert IPDS to PCL. You should be able to change the printer file from *IPDS to *AFPDS with little or no problems. Anything that can be in an *IPDS spool file could be in an *AFPDS spool file. *IPDS provides a subset of the full *AFPDS functionality.
