Now that you bring it up, I've been irritated since we moved our iseries to V5R3. I'm not sure if it was the OS/400 upgrade or the Iseries Access upgrade (more likely) as we did both around the same time I think. Formerly, I could use the copy/paste feature to copy fields from one 5250 screen to another (same screen, different session), and it would only copy the input/output fields, apparently ignoring the static text on the screen. But since the upgrade, it copies all of the text within the selection area (input, output, and static), then tries to paste all that text into only the input capable fields on the target screen, resulting in a mess. Before it was a little hit and miss. On a busy screen with a lot of fields, sometimes only some of them would successfully copy and I would have to do another copy/paste to get the rest. But now it seems much worse. It was very handy, for instance, if I wanted to use the DFU UPDDTA to create a new record, I could copy all the fields from an existing record, then flip over to another session and paste them into a new record, and just modify the key fields, rather than having to type all the data. Now that won't work, except to the degree that I can manage to box only data within the selection area, and not any of the field labels. Much less useful. -----Original Message----- message: 2 date: Wed, 2 Mar 2005 01:14:33 -0600 from: "Trow, Jim" <J.Trow@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> subject: RE: IBM Client Access cutting and pasting I experienced the same issue specifically after installing iSeries Access v5r2 on a Windows 2000 toy. I suspect there may have been an iSeries service pack put out not too long after the initial release which addresses the issue, as you will find to be the case with v5r3 and the ability to do screen prints. In any event, I ended up grabbing a new i5/OS server and found the problem immediately disappeared after installing the complimentary iSeries Access v5r3. If it is unique to v5r2, then I'm sure it was picked up on right away and a service pack was published to correct it - check iSeries Access support. In the interim, your workaround is to simply open another instance of PC5250 and use that one. Keep repeating as needed...
