You could always go the PHP route... now that IBM is supporting it (http://mikewills.name/archives/2005/02/25/ibm_to_back_php.php)... ... okay the article doesn't mention anything about iSeries, but I wouldn't doubt that IBM would release a PHP package for OS/400 (or whatever they are calling it now) sometime in the future.
